Vein Removal Q & A

What is vein removal?

Vein removal is a noninvasive treatment to erase spider veins and/or broken blood vessels on your face and body. Sometimes, these blood vessels can form angiomas — round, two- to four-millimeter lesions that appear red and cherrylike. These skin concerns affect your appearance and self-confidence.

These veins and blood vessels can appear blue, red, or purplish. You develop them as a natural effect of aging, sun exposure, or genetics.

Vein removal at Coastal Dermatology & Medspa helps you achieve clear, smooth skin so that you can feel confident and beautiful again.

Which vein removal treatments do you offer?

Vein removal treatments eliminate unsightly veins like spider veins on the legs, broken blood vessels on the face, or angiomas on the cheeks. At Coastal Dermatology & MedSpa, the team uses one of several nonsurgical procedures that require no downtime:

Sclerotherapy

During sclerotherapy, your provider injects a saline solution directly into the unsightly veins. The solution irritates the vein, causing it to stick together and become scar tissue. The destroyed vein eventually fades away.

Coastal Dermatology & Medspa usually recommends sclerotherapy for spider veins on the legs.

VariLite® laser

This laser treatment treats broken blood vessels, facial redness, spider veins, hyperpigmentation, and pigmented lesions. The VariLite laser directs a concentrated beam of

light onto the treatment areas. The pigment in the lesion absorbs the energy, destroying the unwanted cells.

VariLite laser treatment requires no downtime afterward, but your skin could be red and sensitive for a few days.

IPL photofacial

Intense pulsed light (IPL) eliminates the appearance of facial veins, rosacea, redness, and vascular lesions. IPL delivers several wavelengths of energy into your skin. As the blood in unwanted veins absorbs the light energy, the veins heat up and collapse. Your body resorbs these veins and redirects blood flow through healthy veins.

Am I a candidate for vein removal?

If you’re bothered by the appearance of veins and angiomas on your face or veins in your legs, you’re a candidate for vein removal. Spider veins on the legs can also make your legs feel heavy and tired.

You should be in generally good health and free of skin infections. When you come in for your consultation, your Coastal Dermatology & Medspa provider reviews your goals and vein quality to determine your best treatment.
